FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Ocean Safari (Mexican Sardine Run)
The Mexican Sardine Run is one of nature’s most spectacular marine events. Every year, from October to January, massive schools of sardines attract predators such as striped marlin, dolphins, sea lions, whales, and seabirds in an incredible feeding frenzy.
Wildlife is never 100% guaranteed, as this is a natural, wild environment. However, Magdalena Bay offers some of the best opportunities in the world to witness predator activity during sardine run season.
Depending on the day and ocean conditions, you may encounter striped marlin, dolphins, sea lions, whales, tuna, seabirds, bait balls, and other marine wildlife.
In-water opportunities depend on ocean conditions, wildlife activity, and safety considerations. Your captain and guide will determine what is safe and appropriate for the day.
No prior experience is required, but participants should feel comfortable in the water and in open-ocean environments.
Due to the longer duration and offshore conditions, this experience is best suited for older children who are comfortable on boats and in open water.
We recommend bringing a wetsuit, snorkel gear, quick-dry clothing, a light jacket, reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and a camera or GoPro.
Ocean conditions vary from day to day. Some days are calm, while others may be more dynamic depending on weather and swell conditions.
Safety is our top priority. If ocean conditions are unsafe, we will gladly help reschedule your tour or discuss alternative options.
Tour duration may vary depending on conditions and wildlife activity, but this is generally a full-day open-ocean adventure.
